Microsoft’s FAT charges: Digital Photography Review

Lovely. You have to admire commercialism. If MS can do this to something like FAT, we can only hope that all the rubbish about software patents is never put through the courts, else independant software development is going to get shot through the head. For those who don’t know what I’m on about, you should check this out.

I’m so glad the visiting public can’t see the backend of the gallery, it’s been overlooked amidst the recent updates so the colourscheme is a little, how shall I put it… bizarre?

You should notice a few more links on the site, top right, and on the right hand menu panel, for “Contact Me” and “FAQ”. No prizes for guessing what they do, but feel free to check them out. Heck, if you’re feeling bold you could even use the contact me form to send me a question for the FAQ… How’s that for user interaction? 😉

What’s left to do? More colourschemes would be nice, though not essential, other than that, the majority of the things you’ll see are done, with only the gallery backend requiring a complete re-write bit of tidying up.

Reading the BBC today, I stumbled across this and it made me chuckle… it’s not so much that their OS has been ripped off, that kind of thing is almost expected in this day and age, but it’s the fact that it’s been ripped off so far before its release. It’s just a shame they’ve got hold of a built version, if they’d only managed to get hold of the source, perhaps the GPL community would have been able to do something noble with it. Such as removing unecessary horizontal scrollbars. Or something. Not that I’m bitter.

More photo’s to come soon, and I really should sort out some kind of link aggregator for the right hand menu over there…

Finally today (or at least, this afternoon) thanks to Mr DeKooter, a very good friend of mine, for helping me pick out some rather icier colours for the ice theme on the website. Cheers maj 😀

MS at the Wheel

Tuesday 1025hrs

Browsing the news this morning I came across this article on Wired.com:
Wired News: Microsoft Software in Every Car?
Whilst drive-by-wire is by no means a new idea, with software controlling several cars in retail already, the call for concern comes from this particular vendor.
BSOD at the wheell? No thanks. Who knows, you might even find yourself reversing into a horizontal scrollbar…. *cough*

Speaking of horizontal scrollbars, some of you who are still ignoring the best advice in the world will notice that the evil “Pointless Horizontal Scrollbar of Despair” is no longer with us. May it rot in hell.

Style baby!

Further to the monster effort made to organise the CSS, I’ve actually gone and put it to use. See up in the header, there’s a menu bar. See the “Themes” thing? Go on… click one…

If you’re really lazy of course, you can click here but it’s really not that much of an effort.

Even Munky’s gone all festive 😉

Blimey Guv

Monday 0253hrs

Well, the site has barely changed on the surface, but in the background, the CSS organisation has changed MASSIVELY. Take it from me that an awful lot of time was spent dragging the document organisation into the 21st century… I still need to tidy up the colour scheme code to make it easy for me to go psychadelic, but so far things are working well.

I’m a little worried that the CSS sheet (At 16k in PHP form) is too complicated and the document structure is too DIV heavy, but it’s too late for that now.

Onwards!
