After the last rather miserable post about gun vioence, this made me laugh again…

It *IS* however only from the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, and I’m not sure what kind of authority over the English language an American body can have. Perhaps it should be the American heritage Dictionary of the American Language? Who knows.
This article from the Beeb outlines what I have been telling several friends of mine for a while now. It’s time to let go of Win95 and move on. Some people’s resistance to change is extraordinary, though sometimes understandable. I myself rue the day when Windows, and the only peice of software I need it for, becomes a DRM lock-box that’s largely unusable for anything other than giving $$$ to Mr Gates.
The whole DRM thing scares me. Especially if Adobe don’t get their arse in gear and build a Linux version of their new CS suite. For heaven’s sake, the MacOS10 version is compiled using GCC (Allegedly) so it’s a stones throw from being Linux buildable. I’m betting, though, that behind closed doors a contract was signed to put the pinch on Linux development. Lots of design houses use Macs, but I’m sure a lot more would switch to Linux platforms if they could, simply from an economic standpoint.
I know I would.
Well, what’s all this then? Four very tiny thumbnails? And they’re ALL swans ?
It seems swans aren’t as popular these days as they once were.
Yes that’s right viewers, those 4 diminuitive thumbs are the four ugliest, most despised, most overlooked photographs from my website. And yes, it is because I was bored and being cocky with my beautifully organised backend. *Ahem*.
They will shuffle, but only if you, dear readers, pay them the courtesy of a visit to drag them, kicking, screaming and begging for appreciation from the bottom of the hit counter. Do your best people, they’re counting on you.
Additional: Shadow suggested an Overlords box. My 4 most heavily viewed pictures. The thing is, they wouldn’t change, and my poor GF’s rear end has already stolen enough of the limelight… 😉
Oh my word. I want one. I don’t know why. But I do.
The MegaRay appears to be the daddy-oh of all flashlights. Pointless? Probably. Cool? Hell yes! 😀
I should set up a paypal donations thing like Dans Data so people can randomly give me money.
I live in hope.
Go Diesel!
With some help from a #Webdev friend, the elusive google search Photos by a man called Denyer now points (almost) to its rightful home. How was this done? One hyperlink. Does this expose a potentially dangerous flaw in Google’s searching methods? Yes and no. It seems that if you are able to identify a “hole” in the market for a given search phrase, then its quite possible with the minimum of effort to plug that hole and have your website rise out on top. Of course ‘Photos by a man named denyer’ was a very small hole, so it was possible to fix it with a very small plug, but that’s not to say that this has slightly greater implications. We wouldn’t, afterall, want the beloved Google to become a miserable failure…
This from the BBC today made me think about how I used to get angry or depressed about stats like this. “Innocent” teenagers shagging like rabbits, getting pissed daily and smoking pot, etc.. Really used to get to me. Now? Well now I’m old enough (And the people closest to me are no longer involved) to step back and go “Screw that lot”. If they want to kill themselves, why should we care? Well there’s one reason and that’s the NHS budget over the next 20 years, and the impact that the diseases and health problems will have on the benefit system. Solution? Scrap benefits and public healthcare? Maybe, but that hasn’t helped the US (Just in case you were wondering, I’m uneomployed and refuse to claim dole handouts.). What is the solution? Education, education, education (TM) ? Doesn’t seem to help either, as how can you tell people not to have “fun” ?
Either way, why should I care afterall, with my squeeky clean track record I’m going to reach 100…
…and be paying through the nose in NI and tax to keep the drugged out, syphillis infected idiots alive on the NHS and disability benefits. ..
Hmmm.
Or at least, needs a little more refinement. Over the last week I’ve been trying to make my site a little more google friendly and for the most part, it’s working. Searching for M Denyer Photography, Denyerec, Denyerec’s Rants and Denyerec Gallery now all link to me!
However, Photos By A Man Called Denyer is still a long way off the mark.
Hurrah! Before they were pulling up random links and suchlike, but now they’re heading home. Hopefully with a bit of audience expansion, some news aggregation, some external links and 10 million dollars© I can get somewhere other than here. For whatever reason.
Thanks to Dies for the help with google!
More input. Neeeeed more input.
Category based listing to come. Thanks Shadow for the suggestion. Again. I love you really 😉
