When good dogs… go mad

Tuesday 1436hrs

Thanks Koo from #webdev for posting this one:
Deeply disturbed Canine

His rear-left leg really wanted that bone…

Hot off the press at the BBC we have our dear CotE Calling for Oil Producing Nations to Reduce Prices. Is he for real? Surely to be where he is now he must have studied, ohh, I don’t know, perhaps economics? Even basic accounting? Maybe even just General Studies?

The fact that oil supply is almost beaten by demand is now all over the popular press, meaning that it’s already sensationalist which means it has to be at disasterous limits. Lets face it, the press never report on anything unless it’s reached a newsworth level of “disastery-ness”. How, then, does Mr Brown expect the oil producing nations to help reduce prices? Make more oil? Emphasis on the *make* there, not pump…

Yahoo news has a headline that reads :Pentagon document would alter nuclear weapons plan

Please can someone tell me this is a sick early April fools? I can’t believe that they can consider using nuclear force as a pre-emptive strike. Conventional bombing of someone you *think* might be after you is bad enough. But the sanctioning of nuclear weaponry that’ll devastate a country, the only backing for which is some cooked up evidence that they’ve got “WMDs”…? Come on.

Less caustic. Still true.

Thanks to Xixora from #webdev, the little “Please don’t use IE because it’s a scourge” warning some of you might have been seeing has been adjusted to look a little less… drastic. If you’re browsing in firefox or anything else sensible you won’t have a clue what I’m on about but switch to IE and find out.

If you’re still browsing in IE, you’ll see the warning and are advised to check out “the other guys”.
Thanks Xix.

EMail Spam Disaster

Monday 1600hrs

Don’t bother writing to me to tell me my contact form is broken. I have taken it offline after receiving a huge amount fo virusicated, multipart emails through it.

Damn spammers. **I don’t want your herbal viagra. Stopit.**

I’m investigating the problem, but really if spammers are now hitting contact forms as well as comments without resorting to captchas or silly general knowledge questions I’m a little short on ideas.

If you have any suggestions as to how to prevent comment-form abuse, especially using this comment form plugin: http://ryanduff.net/projects/wp-contactform/ then I’d love to hear from you.

Win some fake baps…?

Monday 1030hrs

The BBC has a peice up called Plastic surgery prizes condemned, covering Zoo Magazine’s offering of breast implants as a competition prize.

Not too fussed about the article either way, but I did happen to notice that the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons abbreviate themselves to BAAPS.

Oh how I laughed. They even have a website.

Vista’s strong, new antipiracy protections

Mmm.
This is hopeless. I’d like to think that people will boycott the whole damn thing but they won’t, they never do. Corporations dictating law to protect corporations is nothing new but the flagrant smell of it is getting too much to bear.

It’s a 2 second analytical leap to go from “Protecting your video all the way to the output device” to telling you that you can only watch it one time. Not Pause it. Can’t skip the damned commercials. Mustn’t see nudity. Must see graphic violence. Must make a donation to the NRA before being allowed to see the finale.

Ye gods.

They talk about security as if it’s for the users benefit and the sad thing is, people buy into it. The only thing Vista wants to secure is the bottom line for its investors and partnerships. But then, why shouldn’t they? That’s what capitalism is all about.
