How to pair a plantronics c65 headset
Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 at 2214If you’re like me, and seem to spend what time you’re not sleeping or working on the telephone, then a headset is a mighty sodding good idea. Plantronics make one called the C65 which pairs with any GAP (Generic Access Profile) capable DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) phone such as the handy-dandy Seimens Gigaset E495 I now happen to own.
However, pairing the DECT headset trips some people up as indeed it got me earlier. The snag was the base station PIN.
- Reset the PIN for the base station to 0000
- Confirm the PIN is 0000 by re-registering a handset as per your DECT phone manual
- Hold down the volume wheel on the C65 headset for 3 seconds (When the light comes on, you can let go)
- Put your base station into pairing mode (On the E495 base unit, this simply requires you to hold down the button on the front of the unit for ~3 seconds)
- After 4-5 seconds, the light on the C65 should go out. Press the main button on the headset and you should get a dialtone
- You can now set the base PIN to something less obvious if you wish, but as registering a handset requires physical access to the base unit you’re not at risk from pikey neighbours stealing your phoneline.
Hope this helps someone, I had a brief headscratch moment earlier thanks to my over exuberance with changing the PIN before I’d registered the headset!
I wanna thank you for helping out, your steps abover are great, even Siemens nor Plantronics could help, I spent 3 days on this.
Glad I could be of some help!
Thanks… if like me you were having problems with a Magicbox Touch phone, holding down the ‘page’ button equates to your step 4
Hi. We followed the above steps and got the dial tone on the handset. However, when I tried to dial out, the sound went on the headset and eventually I got the voice telling me to replace the handset.
Any ideas?
Hey SarahI,
To dial out using the headset, you need to leave the headset off, dial out with the ordinary phone handset and connect the call *first*, then transfer the call from the phone to the headset once you’re on the call.
It’s a bit of a pain for short calls I’ll say that much, but if you know you’ll be on the line for a while it’s not too bad.
I could kiss you! So simple!!! Now, why don’t the manuals put it like this?
Topman – just done this with a c65 and a panasonic dect / gap phone – was doing it the wrong way round – but this worked first time – huzzah!
Can you pair a Plantronics C65 with a normal desk phone?
I’m not sure, I paired it with the DECT base station, so if your deskphone has a cordless handset (Unlikely if it’s a deskphone!) and is DECT I don’t see why not, though it’s probably unlikely. You might have to look into the “lifter” devices they sell that allow the phone to answer automatically.
thank youtook me ages to figure this out! nothing in manuals or anything! xx
Very impressed. Used this advice to pair a C65 headset with a relatively ancient Panasonic KX-TG6621E. Worked a treat and first time.
Thank you thank you. I’ ve had this for years and could never work out how to pair it!!! I just did it!!! Cant wait to use it
I have a Gigaset 300A cordless phone and am trying to pair it with the C65 cordless headset but there are no pairing instructions in the Gigaset manual, could you help please?
I’m afraid unless the above instructions work I have no idea, I’ve only got the E495 I think at this point I’d consider contacting Siemens to ask, as a cursory search online reveals nothing of use either!
I have 6 phone lines using Gigaset E49H and how do I transfer a call while using C65 headset??? Could you help please?
I don’t know about that particular handset, for me if I’m on the earpiece, I still have to use my handset (E495) to transfer the call to the other handset via the “INT” menu item. When I pick up on the other handset I then hang up on the earpiece to complete the transfer.
Very good advice. Thank you very much!!!
Thank You! This was the best guidance I found on pairing a C565 Plantronics headset with a Siemans Gigaset SL400A. Without you, I would have spent hours on the phone to helpdesks.

Hi,
Hold down the volume wheel on the C65 headset for 3 seconds (When the light comes on, you can let go)
When i press the volume button down to pair the light continues to flash and will not go solid, tried every combination and still flashing, any ideas?
The best I can suggest, is making sure the batteries are fully charged and that you’ve confirmed that your base station PIN is 0000. If that’s the case and the steps above don’t work for your base station, you might well have to call the manufacturer. I’m so expert by any means, just sharing the experience I had with my own unit. Good luck!
Hello,
Your advice helps me a lot.
Thank you very very Much
Best regards
i have: 1 Gigaset SL560 base with 1 Gigaset A58H connected.
but trying connecting a Plantronics C65 DETC connects, but as a “phone” meaning, i have to transfer the call when it is established, meaning the Plantronics is NOT recognized as a headset, but as a phone.
have another constellation of gigasets and C65, doing the same at home.
any solution?
have to say, had originally the above constellation, and the headset was recognized as a headset, meaning, i called up on the gigaset handset, and when i wanted, just switched the C65 on, and the call was on that.
no transferring noting, just “taking the call” on the c65.
now i have 2, needing transferring the calls.
You are a star thankyou for taking time to make this simple. I have been using these headsets for years and pairing them but i can never remember the instructions and i get stuck for days sometimes! Thankyou for making it simple
Sadly not – I only have one headset, and must transfer calls to it from the Gigaset phone.
I have a Plantronic SAVI 720, I took the headset from the base and pressed the up volume button for 3 secs, the light stays on then i press locator on my Panasonic KX-TGH 220 base and it works great, but when i put the headset Plantronic SAVI 720 back on its base the light on the base flashes green and red then stays green, then i take the headset back off the base i have to pair it again with my Panasonic KX-TGH 220 anyone got any ideas i am left scratching my head here
