On a Budgie

Friday 1413hrs

Well, I thought it was about time to plug Learning Photography on a Budget, a short article written by a friend of mine who’s been experimenting with dirt cheap film, processing and a Zenit. Why? He likes photography and, unlike me, he’s not prepared to spend his life savings, 3 months rent and 4lbs of flesh ona camera rig. Good on him I say!

Anyone with under a hundred UK pounds to spend can get started, some cheap Fuji Superia 400, an old manual Zenit body, some cheap Zenit-mount lenses from EBay (~10 pounds a throw) and if you shoot slides or only have negatives processed, you won’t scare the moths in the wallet.

It’s no Leica, but for learning, fun or simply scaring people with your communist-looking camera gear it’s a great way to go.

Further photography goodness?
Not today.
Might upload some more photo’s if I’m feeling generous, but that’s unlikely, got work to do! *Gasp*.

I do need to examine how tightly I want to integrate the gallery and the Log, see if I need to restructure the backend a little as I’m growing tired of its simplicity. Also need to get my “business” website, Pixelape, up and running. More later.

Megaray!

Thursday 1524hrs

Oh my word. I want one. I don’t know why. But I do.

The MegaRay appears to be the daddy-oh of all flashlights. Pointless? Probably. Cool? Hell yes! 😀

I should set up a paypal donations thing like Dans Data so people can randomly give me money.
I live in hope.

By a man called…

Thursday 1317hrs

Go Diesel!
With some help from a #Webdev friend, the elusive google search Photos by a man called Denyer now points (almost) to its rightful home. How was this done? One hyperlink. Does this expose a potentially dangerous flaw in Google’s searching methods? Yes and no. It seems that if you are able to identify a “hole” in the market for a given search phrase, then its quite possible with the minimum of effort to plug that hole and have your website rise out on top. Of course ‘Photos by a man named denyer’ was a very small hole, so it was possible to fix it with a very small plug, but that’s not to say that this has slightly greater implications. We wouldn’t, afterall, want the beloved Google to become a miserable failure

Category Lists Ahoy!

Wednesday 2025hrs

After a suggestion from Shadow (#Webdev), the Category Listing page is now complete. It should, if all is well, be listing the latest 150 posts in a categorised view. I’m not too sure yet about the “latest” 150, I have a feeling it’s not sorting that out correctly, but we’ll see.
(You can find the category links page link in the right hand menu, in the “Page Links” section.)

This Week’s CD

Tuesday 1243hrs

This week, I have been mostly listening to: Harvey Mandel: Baby Batter, a classic 70’s funk sound with some really instrumental percussion.

Groove-y.

If you’re determined, give it a listen 😉

Bloodsuckers

Monday 1626hrs

When something like this crops up, I find myself wondering whether the new charges / taxes / levies / fees / payments will ever actually lead to a reduction of charges elsewhere. Will they ever? Probably not. Why, as a government, let go of a good thing if people have adapted to accomodate it ?

One thing few people realise is that apparently, looking back through the history of public taxation and suchlike, taxes were brought in as a short-term measure and levied against only those who had money spare to pay them. But, after a while, why would any sane government tick let go of such a juicy blood vessel?

Timebombs

Monday 1348hrs

This from the BBC today made me think about how I used to get angry or depressed about stats like this. “Innocent” teenagers shagging like rabbits, getting pissed daily and smoking pot, etc.. Really used to get to me. Now? Well now I’m old enough (And the people closest to me are no longer involved) to step back and go “Screw that lot”. If they want to kill themselves, why should we care? Well there’s one reason and that’s the NHS budget over the next 20 years, and the impact that the diseases and health problems will have on the benefit system. Solution? Scrap benefits and public healthcare? Maybe, but that hasn’t helped the US (Just in case you were wondering, I’m uneomployed and refuse to claim dole handouts.). What is the solution? Education, education, education (TM) ? Doesn’t seem to help either, as how can you tell people not to have “fun” ?

Either way, why should I care afterall, with my squeeky clean track record I’m going to reach 100…
…and be paying through the nose in NI and tax to keep the drugged out, syphillis infected idiots alive on the NHS and disability benefits. ..

Hmmm.

Needs more Jiggawatts!

Sunday 1704hrs

Or at least, needs a little more refinement. Over the last week I’ve been trying to make my site a little more google friendly and for the most part, it’s working. Searching for M Denyer Photography, Denyerec, Denyerec’s Rants and Denyerec Gallery now all link to me!

However, Photos By A Man Called Denyer is still a long way off the mark.

Hurrah! Before they were pulling up random links and suchlike, but now they’re heading home. Hopefully with a bit of audience expansion, some news aggregation, some external links and 10 million dollars© I can get somewhere other than here. For whatever reason.

Thanks to Dies for the help with google!

More input. Neeeeed more input.

Category based listing to come. Thanks Shadow for the suggestion. Again. I love you really 😉
